MINNEAPOLIS -- The Worthington YMCA Stingrays swimming team polished off its season Saturday and Sunday at the regional meet at the University of Minnesota Aquatic Center.
"There were disappointments for some, but everyone swam very well," Stingrays head coach Donna Damm said. "I know they will all be ready for next year."
Oliver Wolyniec, swimming in the boys' 9-10 age group, competed in four events. In the 50 backstroke, Wolyniec clocked a time of 40.15 seconds to place 33rd out of 71 swimmers. A time of 34.36 in the 50 freestyle placed Wolyniec 50th out of 74 entrants, while his time of 1:40.46 was good enough for 22nd out of 24. Wolyniec's best effort came in the 50 breaststroke, where he turned in a time of 42.90 for 11th place out of 39 entrants. The time was a personal best for Wolyniec.
Tim Skog (boys' 11-12) finished 22nd out of 96 in the 50 freestyle with a time of 27.91, while his time of 1:04.69 in the 100 freestyle was good enough for 42nd place. Skog clocked personal bests in both of his events.
Kari Engelkes (girls' 15-18), competing in her eighth regional meet, was 42nd out of 51 swimmers in the 200 freestyle, turning in a time of 2:21.76. Kari Engelkes was 22nd out of 96 entrants in the 50 free with a time of 27.13, while her time of 1:02.03 placed her 41st out of 84 in the 100 freestyle.

Chris Engelkes (boys' 15-18) turned in a personal best of 25.20 in his only event, the 50 freestyle. He placed 31st out of 70 swimmers.
