LAMBERTON -- Breaking the game open with an eight-run sixth inning Tuesday afternoon, the Southwestern United Wildcats improved to 2-0 with an 11-3 victory over the Edgerton Flying Dutchmen in Red Rock Conference baseball action.

SWU, which defeated Red Rock Central/Westbrook-Walnut Grove 11-2 Monday, won for the second straight day at Lamberton. SWU is playing its early-season games on the road due to renovations being made on the field in Heron Lake.

Ben Scheevel tossed a complete-game gem for the Wildcats (2-0, 2-0), as he didn't walk a batter and fanned 10 while allowing just three hits and one earned run on 75 pitches (10.7 per inning).

After Edgerton tied the game at three with a trio of runs in the top of the fifth inning, SWU answered with its eight-run sixth frame, and Scheevel struck out the final five batters he faced to secure the victory.

Octavio Jimenez was 3-for-4 with three RBIs, while Mike Stenzel (two RBIs) and Joe Liepold (double, RBI-single) were each 2-for-4 for the Wildcats. Garet Rogers was also key for the Wildcats, as he tied a state record with three sacrifice bunts in the game.

WINDOM -- Ryan Rasche was dealing once again in Jackson County Central's two-run Southwest Conference victory over Windom, as he struck out nine and walked just one in hurling a four-hit shutout against the Eagles.

Windom's Bryce Grove also threw well in a complete-game effort, fanning seven and walking four while allowing just three hits.

JCC (1-0, 3-1) won the pitcher's duel by plating a pair of runs in the top of the sixth, as Pat Rients had an RBI-double to bring in Tom Burmeister and later scored on an error to account for the game's only runs.

Burmeister and Calvin Ferguson had the only other hits for JCC, which left the bases loaded in the sixth.

Windom's Pat Rhubee went 2-for-3, as the Eagles never really threatened to score against Rasche and the JCC defense.

Windom (0-1, 0-1) hosts RRC/W-WG Friday.
