PRIOR LAKE -- Top-seeded Prior Lake defeated Worthington High’s girls tennis team 5-2 here Thursday in Section 2AA play.
“We lost a lot of close matches,” said Trojan coach Mike Marquardt. “There were some great points and awesome determination (displayed). Unfortunately, we weren’t able to pull through, but what a fantastic journey the team had. Thanks again to all the family and friends and classmates who supported us.
“Our team is finished up, but individuals are still going on.”
Earning victories for the Trojans were singles players Kessie Aljets and Bailey Newman. Aljets earned a 7-6 (5), 7-6 (5) triumph, while Newman prevailed 6-4, 6-1.
The Trojans did not win a set in doubles competition.
At No. 1 singles, WHS senior Marah Darling fell 6-0, 6-1. Also dropping a singles match was the Trojans’ Ivy Jenson (6-0, 6-0).
Worthington’s doubles teams that fell short included the tandems of Taya Oberloh-Brooke Nordseth (6-1, 6-1), Calah Riley-Madison Scheffer (6-1, 6-1) and Taylor Nordseth-Hannah McNab (6-1, 6-3).
