Thursday roundup: WHS second at boys track meet

Windom girls second in same meet, at New Ulm

NEW ULM — Worthington High School placed second in the boys competition and third among the girls teams Thursday at the five-team New Ulm Invitational track and field meet. Windom Area, meanwhile, placed second as a team in the girls events and fifth in the boys.

Golf

Trojan girls third in Redwood Falls

REDWOOD FALLS — Lilly Mahlberg shot a team-best 49, good enough for seventh place overall, and the Worthington High School girls gold team finished in a tie for third at the Big South Girls West Division Invitational.

Tarren Spartz and Kendall Nixon each had rounds of 53 for WHS, while Mia Nixon and Ellie Weg both carded 58s and Abby Bristow had a 68.

Redwood Valley won the meet with a team score of 198, followed closely by Luverne (199). Worthington and Marshall each recorded team totals of 213.

HL-O/F vs. H-BC vs. WWG

FULDA — Sawyer Drent shared medalist honors with a 41 and Heron Lake-Okabena/Fulda emerged as the winner of a Thursday triangular boys golf meet.

HL-O/F finished with a team total of 179, ahead of both Hills-Beaver Creek (187) and Westbrook-Walnut Grove (202).

Also finishing with counting rounds for HL-O/F were Jaxson Tiesler (44), Carter Drent (45) and Isaiah Schmid (49). The Patriots had a round of 44 from Thomas Dysthe, followed by Damion Meinerts (46), Dallas Page (48) and Jacob Axness (49). W-WG had a co-medalist round of 41 from Brady Ross, and rounding up the Chargers scorers were Kole Curry (52), Hunter Lien (52) and Nathan Kuehl (57).

In girls competition, Tess Van Maanen had a 45 to earn medalist honors as H-BC won with a team total of 227. Both HL-O/F and W-WG fielded incomplete teams.

Softball

St. James 10-14, Luverne 4-3

ST. JAMES — Carly Olson homered, doubled and singled and drove home all four runs in the opening game of Luverne’s Thursday doubleheader against St. James. Roz Oye also had a pair of hits for the Cardinals in both contests, as well as the team’s only RBI in the nightcap.

A/E wins one, loses one

Adrian/Ellsworth scored a 15-0, four-inning win over Heron Lake-Okabena/Fulda in a Wednesday game. Leading hitters for A/E were Claire Hoffman (4-for-4, four RBIs. two runs scored), Leah Kruse (2-for-3, three runs scored), Karly Kruse (2-for-3, one RBI, two runs scored) and Brooklyn Schock (2-for-2, three RBIs). Leah Kruse pitched all four innings and faced 13 batters, giving up two hits and one walk to go along with eight strikeouts.

On Thursday, Mountain Lake Area Christian topped the Dragons by an 11-1 score. Shawna Rogers had the only RBI for A/E.
