Worthington 4-2, Pipestone 5-5

PIPESTONE -- In a Big South Conference softball doubleheader on Thursday, Worthington led Pipestone Area through the entirety of the first game until the bottom of the eighth.

Mandi Miller hit a line drive single past second base, scoring the winning run with a walkoff.

Haley Grimmius went seven and two-thirds innings, allowing six hits, walking eight, and striking out three for the Trojans. Sydney Ponto went 3-for-4 with a double and 2 RBIs. Sophie Wietzema went 2-for-3 with a home run and a double. Grimmius went 2-for-4 with two doubles and an RBI. Aracely Vasquez went 2-for-3 with a double.

The Arrows’ Mara Taubert hit a single with two outs in the bottom of the seventh, tying the game.

Adrianna Johnson pitched all eight innings, allowing 12 hits, walking two and striking out three.

Worthington’s bats cooled off in game two. Ponto pitched for Worthington going six innings, walking zero, and striking out one.

Jessa Reinhert pitched for Pipestone and went six innings allowing four hits, walking three, and striking out five.

Payton Sauerbrei went 1-for-2 with a double and an RBI. Grimmius went 1-for-3 with a double and an RBI.

April Haupert went 2-for-3, scoring two runs, and Paige Ahrendt went 1-for-3 with two RBIs and a double.

ADRIAN -- Destiny Sybounheuan, Taylor Naas, Rylie Tollafson and Jaelin Renquist all had two hits as Mountain Lake Area/Comfrey defeated Adrian 14-0 in game one of a doubleheader. Molly Carnell and Brooke Naas checked the Dragons on a two-hitter.

In the second game, Sybounheuan and Taylor Naas each had three hits, and Margo Stoesz had two hits and three RBIs. Shawna Rogers was 2-for-2 for Adrian.

Carnell went the full five innings for the win.

E/SWC 10-25, RRC/W-WG 0-0

EDGERTON -- Sierra Van Dyke and Gabby Buckridge each threw a shutout as Edgerton/Southwest Christian earned a sweep over Red Rock Central/Westbrook-Walnut Grove.

In Game 1, Van Dyke allowed just one hit and struck out eight in five innings.

Jessa Nibbelink had three hits and scored four times. Jazzy Prins had three hits, including a home run, and drove in four. Liz Prins hit a two-run home run.

In Game 2, Buckridge allowed two hits and struck out six in four innings.

Prins had two hits and a home run in the nightcap, while Hannah Nerem was 2-for-2 with five RBIs. She had a double and a grand slam. Buckridge was 2-for-2 with three RBIs, while Halle Snyder and Hannah Pap were each 2-for-2 with a double and drove in two.

E/SWC is at Pipestone Area on Monday.

Baseball

MOUNTAIN LAKE -- In a pitcher’s duel, Mountain Lake Area/Comfrey edged Red Rock Conference rival Adrian.

Abraham Stoesz was the winning pitcher. He went the full seven innings on a four-hitter, walking two and striking out 10. Ian Stamer took the loss after going six innings with a four-hitter.

MLA/C scored its run in the third inning on a bases-loaded walk issued to Adam Karschnik. His teammate, Brett Willaby, went 2-for-3 in the game.

Lance Luettel went 2-for-3 for Adrian. Stamer and Brandon Schnoor each had a hit.

MCC 6-11, HL-O/F 0-5

SLAYTON -- Scoring twice in the first inning and four times in the sixth, Murray County Central shut out Heron Lake-Okabena/Fulda in the first game of a doubleheader.

Nate Everson pitched a three-hitter for the winners, striking out seven.

Justin Benda had two hits and three RBIs for MCC. Everson had a hit and scored twice, while Kyler Deacon scored two runs.

Eli Fest suffered the loss for the Coyotes. He allowed three earned runs and struck out 11. Matt Madsen had a pair of hits for HL-O/F.

In the second game, MCC prevailed 11-5.

Drew Coulter earned the win in relief for the Rebels. He did not allow a run and struck out five in four and one-thirds innings.  

Blake Schmitz had a hit and drove in three runs, while Deacon had two hits and drove in two. Danny Blankenship, Everson and Spencer Wajer each had two hits and an RBI.

RRC/W-WG 3-9, E/SWC 5-7

LAMBERTON -- Edgerton/Southwest Christian beat Red Rock Central/Westbrook-Walnut Grove 5-3 in the first game of a doubleheader, then RRC/W-WG prevailed in the nightcap, 9-7.

E/SWC scored five runs in the bottom of the seventh to win the opener. Denver Decker, Jacob Ockenga, Isaac Jasper, Gabe Gilbertson, Jacob Van Dam and Kade Fey all had hits in the big inning.

Van Dam was the winning pitcher. He pitched seven frames and struck out 11.

In the second game, RRC/W-WG scored six runs in the seventh inning. Trenton Halvorson went 3-for-4 at the plate in the contest.

 

Golf

Red Rock Conference

Heron Lake-Okabena/Fulda won the Red Rock Conference boys meet in Slayton. And in Westbrook, Murray County Central prevailed.

MCC’s Abby Hamman, with identical rounds of 41 strokes for an 82 total, led the girls. Teammate Ciera Tutt scored a 93. Adrian’s Josi Altman (95) and Annika Elias (97) did well for Adrian.

MCC had 379 strokes, while Adrian had 392, Westbrook-Walnut Grove 422, Heron Lake-Okabena/Fulda 430, Hills-Beaver Creek 485, Mountain Lake Area 496 and Red Rock Central 497 for the girls.

On the boys’ side, HL-O/F’s Cory Renneke (77), Payton Marquardt (78) and Joe Fischer (78) led the winning team. Andrew Quade shot a 78 for W-WG. Jack Pierson shot a 79 for MCC. Brock Henning shot an 83 for Adrian.

Team scores were HL-O/F 319, W-WG 374, Adrian 377, MCC and Southwest Christian 378, RRC 392 and MLA 491.
