FAIRMONT – Worthington played Fairmont/Martin County West to a tie in a Big South Conference hockey game Thursday night.

Senior goalie Lillyana Newman was exceptional for the Trojans, batting away several high quality shots from the Cardinals offense.

The Trojans were outshot by the Cardinals.

“We just put it all together tonight,” said Worthington head coach Chad Nickel. “They passed well, skated fast, and were in communication with one another. We had a few close ones against their net.”

Worthington played the Cardinals earlier this season and were defeated 5-1.

The Trojans will play 14 games in the next four weeks. The Trojans travel to Waseca on Saturday.

HULL, Iowa – Western Christian stifled Worthington with a variety of defensive fronts.

The Trojans struggled to shoot the ball, and a strong rotating cast from Western Christian kept Worthington’s offense stuck in limbo.

Abagotte Opiew led the Trojan scorers with 13 points. Ten players scored for Western Christian.

“It was a game to learn from, we struggled to operate under a shot clock, we had our competitiveness, that we showed when we won five games straight, lapse tonight,” said Worthington head coach Clint Meyer. “There is not a weakness on the Western Christian roster, they are a really good team and were intense on defense.”

Worthington will look to rebound when they host out of conference opponent Albert Lea on Saturday.
