WHS boys, Luverne girls win

JACKSON -- Worthington freshman Fanuel Wolday and Luverne senior Tenley Nelson earned medalist honors and led their squads to team victories here at the Jackson County Central Invitational cross country meet.

Wolday covered the 5K course at Loon Lake Golf Course in 17:12.44. Worthington’s Alec Langerud (seventh in 17:42.24) and Mikele Walu (ninth in 17:47.65) also finished in the top 10 as the Trojans won the team championship with 36 points.


Luverne’s boys finished second, followed by JCC and Windom. Also finishing in the top 10 individually were JCC’s Andrew Boyum (third in 17:25.79) and Evan Paplow (fifth in 17:31.16), and Luverne’s Owen Janiszeski (sixth in 17:40.20), Griffen Jarchow (eighth in 17:43.81) and Camden Janiszeski (10th in 17:48.84).

Worthington’s Ofbeka Morke and Mason Bobb were 11th and 12th, respectively.

In the girls’ 5K competition, Nelson raced to victory in 19:10.14. Cardinal teammate Jenna DeBates was second in 19:20.03, while Windom Area’s Kaylee Walklin finished third in 19:32.39.

Also placing in the top 10 were Luverne’s Grace Ingebretson (fifth in 21:23.96), Kayla Bloemendaal (seventh in 21:54.63) and Tiana Lais (eighth in 22:24.62), and Jackson County Central’s Olivia Anderson (sixth in 21:31.24).

The top Worthington runner was Nicole Wede, who finished 14th.


HL-O/F 3, W-WG 0

FULDA -- Samantha Untiedt had 10 kills and 10 digs as host Heron Lake-Okabena/Fulda defeated Westbrook-Walnut Grove 25-11, 25-21, 25-20 Thursday night in a Red Rock Conference match.


Untiedt was also 12-for-12 serving, with three aces.

Marissa Becker had nine digs for the winners, while Taryn Evers and Maddie Schumacher each had six blocks.

For Westbrook-Walnut Grove, Kelsey DeSmith had six kills and 13 digs. Abby Wiggins and Natalie Wahl combined to go 13-for-13 serving, and Addeson Jenniges had 15 set assists.

Heron Lake-Okabena/Fulda is 11-4 overall and 3-0 in Red Rock play this season. Westbrook-Walnut Grove is 5-5 and 2-2.

MCC 3, MLA/C 1

SLAYTON -- Emily Rohrer had 15 kills and five blocks, and Sophie Larson added 10 kills as Murray County Central defeated Mountain Lake Area/Comfrey Thursday in a Red Rock Conference match.

Camdyn Kluis had seven ace serves and 14 digs for the Rebels, who won by scores of 25-19, 21-25, 25-22, 25-11. Kiana Felber contributed 19 digs, while Kate Slettum had 41 assists.

The Rebels improved to 2-7 overall and 1-3 in Red Rock play, while MLA/C fell to 5-5 and 1-2.
