Track and field: Brouwer propels Sibley-Ocheyedan
HULL, Iowa -- Grant Brouwer, a day after making history at the Drake Relays, won the long jump in 20-4 and the high jump in 6-6 as Sibley-Ocheyedan placed a close second in the Nighthawk Relays in Hull on Friday.
Trevin Wasmund won the 400-meter hurdles (58.70) for Sibley-Ocheyedan. The Generals' shuttle relay team of Jackson Carlson, Beau Jenness, Caleb Mayer and Wasmund won that event in 1:01.86. And the distance medley relay team of Jenness, Dalton Hatting, Brouwer and Wasmund achieved first in 3:44.61.
Boyden Hull/Rock Valley finished first in the boys standings with 150 points, followed by Sibley-Ocheyedan with 146. West Lyon had 101, Hull-Western Christian 78, George-Little Rock 40, Akron-Westfield 35 and Okoboji 25.
On Thursday, Brouwer, a senior, became the first track and field athlete in Sibley-Ocheyedan history to win a Drake Relays title. He placed first in the high school boys high jump by clearing six feet, nine inches. A year ago as a junior, Brouwer cleared 6-7 and finished in fourth place.
