Track and field: SWC/E wins boys and girls Red Rock Conference team titles

SLAYTON -- Southwest Christian/Edgerton earned double team championships Thursday at the Red Rock Conference track and field meet in Slayton.

The SWC/E boys achieved individual firsts by Avery Pater in the 800-meter run (2:07.58), Joshua Raak in the pole vault (11-6), and Micah Schaap in the long jump (19-9) and triple jump (41-11.5). Southwest Christian/Edgerton also won the 4x400-meter relay (3:36.80) and the 4x800-meter relay (8:42.39).

The SWC/E girls got individual wins from Kaitlyn Schuur in the pole vault (9-6) and Sommer Schaap in the triple jump (32-1.5). The Southwest Christian/Edgerton 4x400-meter relay team (4:23.01) and 4x800-meter relay team (10:22.83) were also victorious.

Southwest/Edgerton scored 157 points in girls events. Hills-Beaver Creek was next with 138.5, followed by Heron Lake-Okabena/Fulda with 116.5, Murray County Central 51, Adrian 31, Westbrook-Walnut Grove/Red Rock Central 29, Mountain Lake Area/Comfrey 28 and Ellsworth 2.

SWC/E had 140 points in the boys events. Ellsworth had 103.2, MCC 85.3, MLA/C 73, H-BC 62, W-WG/RRC 33, HL-O/F 30 and Adrian 28.

Morgan Gehl of HL-O/F won three girls events, securing the 400-meter run (1:04.31), the 800-meter run (2:26.18) and the 1,600-meter run (5:02.18). Her teammate, Samantha Untiedt, won both the 100-meter hurdles (17.30) and the 300-meter hurdles (52.13).

Layla Deelstra of Hills-Beaver Creek prevailed in the 100-meter dash (13.37) and the 200-meter dash (28.59).

On the boys’ side, Ellsworth’s Kade Boltjes won both the 200-meter dash (23.11) and the 400-meter dash (52.82) while placing second in the 100 meters. His twin brother Sean won the 300-meter hurdles (41.74) and was second in the 200 meters.
