Track and field: Brouwer first in Iowa state high jump

DES MOINES, Iowa -- Sibley-Ocheyedan High School senior Grant Brouwer won the Iowa state Class AA high jump competition last weekend with a leap of 6-9.

Brouwer broke his own school record in the event at the qualifying meet in Sioux Center, going 6-10. He eased to victory at state. His closest competition was Braeden Hoyer of Northeast, who went 6-6.

Other Generals did well at the state meet.

Jack Carlson, Beau Jenness, Caleb Meyer and Trevin Wasmund placed third in the shuttle hurdles, clocking a time of 1:03.14. Jenness, Dalton Hatting, Brouwer and Wasmund placed eighth in the distance medley in 3:54.39. And Wasmund was fifth in the 400-meter hurdles in a time of 56.70.
