Madison Beckmann, with six kills, Weg with five, and Scheitel-Taylor with 4, contributed to a well-rounded offense. Weg added five blocks and Olivia Hayenga three blocks.
“We were able to put some nice stretches together where we earned our own points, which was nice to see,” said WHS head coach Jessica Hogan.
JCC 3, HL-O/F 0
JACKSON -- Heron Lake-Okabena/Fulda, which defeated Worthington 3-0 in both teams’ season openers, found the going much tougher against a strong Jackson County Central squad.
JCC won in three, 25-11, 25-19 and 26-24.
“They put up a big block. They serve aggressively and they’re very disciplined with their defense,” said HL-O/F head coach Trista Rhubee.
For the visiting Coyotes, Taryn Evers, Sam Untiedt and Marissa Becker each had six kills. Ellie Bang had 21 set assists and 14 digs. Emma Rasche and Becker both had 13 digs.
Both Bang and Chrissy Hermeling put 10 of 10 serves in play.
W-WG 3, Springfield 1
WESTBROOK -- Westbrook-Walnut Grove won its season opener in four games, 25-8, 17-25, 26-24 and 29-27.
Natalie Wahl with 13 kills and Abby Wiggins with 12 led the way. Kayla Freeburg was 28-for-28 serving with four aces and Kelsey DeSmith, who also had nine kills, was 11-for-11 at the line.

MCC 3, Dawson-Boyd 2
DAWSON -- Murray County Central went five sets to beat host Dawson-Boyd, 25-21, 16-25, 23-25, 25-20 and 15-11.
Emily Rohrer had an outstanding game, amassing 26 kills and blocking seven.
West Sioux 3, H-LP 0
LAKE PARK, Iowa -- Harris-Lake Park served well and improved with their serve receiving, but the Wolves couldn’t keep up with visiting West Sioux.
West Sioux prevailed on scores of 25-20, 25-15 and 25-16.
St. Peter 5, Worthington 0
ST. PETER -- Host St. Peter beat the Worthington Trojans girls soccer team 5-0, breaking out from a 1-0 first half lead.
St. Peter’s lone first half goal came from Ellie Letts, and it was scored just five minutes into the game. WHS goalkeeper Chantel Peralta called for it, grabbed for it, but it slipped through her hands for Lett, who simply tapped it into the net.
But for the most part, said Worthington head coach Emily Ahlquist, the Trojans played well in the first half.
“We were pressuring and containing exactly how we had practiced, and the girls were excited with how things were going. At halftime, we talked about continuing to do the same thing on defense, but pushing forward on offense. We were not having opportunities at the net in the first half,” Ahlquist said.
Halfway through the second half, the Trojans played St. Peter mostly even. They just couldn’t keep it going.
