Trojans dominate field at Windom quadrangular

WINDOM -- Racking up a combined 21 first-place performances Monday afternoon, both the Worthington Trojan boys' and girls' track and field teams captured titles at the Windom Quadrangular meet.

WINDOM -- Racking up a combined 21 first-place performances Monday afternoon, both the Worthington Trojan boys' and girls' track and field teams captured titles at the Windom Quadrangular meet.

The Trojan girls scored 136 points to win the meet, while Windom was second with 76 points. Wabasso edged Jackson County Central 31-26 for third place.

Worthington's boys scored a meet-best 122 points, with JCC finishing second with 92 points. Windom took third with 48 points, while Wabasso scored 3 points.

The Worthington girls won three of the four relay races (4x200 - 1:56.7; 4x100 - 54.1; and 4x400 - 4:31.1) and took second in the 4x800 with a time of 11:12.1.

Kaitlin Gerber won the 800 meter run (2:33.5) and the 1600 meter run (5:40.8), while Stephanie Jaycox (13:35.5) and Kirsten Aljets (13:41.7) went 1-2 in the 3200 meter run for the Trojans.

Rachel Malmgren was another double-event winner for Worthington, capturing first place in the 400 meter dash (1:06.4) and the high jump (5-0). Kayla VanderVeen was second in the 400 with a time of 1:08.3.

Anneli Dudley (7-0) and Ellen Dudley (6-6) claimed the top two spots in the pole vault, while Cassie Landgaard (15-4) and Chelsea Schmitz (15-3) also went 1-2 in the long jump for Worthington.

Jenna Donkersloot took second in both the discus (106-5) and the shot put (35-5) for Worthington, while Jenny Mammen raced to a first-place finish in the 200 meter dash (29.4), and Sarah Cham was the runner-up in the triple jump (32-0).

Cham also finished third in both the 100 meter hurdles (17.0) and 300 meter hurdles (53.6), while Holli Aggen (14.5), Lydia Kemper (30.8) and Kristen Andersen (29-4) took third in the 100 and 200 meter dashes and triple jump, respectively.

The Trojan boys also won a trio of relays (4x200 - 1:37.2; 4x100 - 49.1; and 4x400 - 3:39.0) and were second in the 4x800 with a time of 9:35.5.

Travis Pedersen won three events (200 meter dash - 23.9; 400 meter dash - 53.6; and triple jump - 40.9), while Tom Mammen also had a banner day by winning the 100 meter dash (11.3) and the long jump (18-9), and taking second in the high jump (5-6).

Both Pedersen and Mammen were also on the winning 4x400-meter relay team with John Mead and Adou Omot, who won the 800 meter run with a time of 2:05.0. Mead was third in the high jump as he cleared five feet.

Worthington's Brandon Berger won the 110 meter hurdles with a time of 17.2 and was third in the 300 meter hurdles (48.1), while Dustin Britten was second in the 300 hurdles with a time of 46.2 and third in the 110 hurdles (18.8).

Casey Vis (12.1 in the 100 meter dash), Ian Fleace (11:45.6 in the 3200 meter run), Jesse Regalado (7-0 in the pole vault) and Ethan Sprittle (5:02.3 in the 1600 meter run) also earned second place in their respective events for the Trojans.

Also getting third for Worthington were Aaron Grafing (5:08.4 in the 1600), Tim Zaske (2:21.3 in the 800) and Kreguto Okello (12:15.5 in the 3200).

Worthington's next meet is a triangular with St. James and Fairmont next Tuesday in St. James.
