MARSHALL -- The Worthington Trojans volleyball team placed sixth in the White Division at the Jimmy John's Tournament in Marshall Friday and Saturday.
On Friday, WHS lost to Adrian 22-25, 14-25 and to Central Christian 16-25, 17-25. On Saturday, the Trojans beat Murray County Central 25-16, 16-25, 16-14, lost to Hills-Beaver Creek 17-25, 26-24, 15-17, and lost to Dawson-Boyd 20-25, 15-18.
Payton Sauerbrei was 54-for-54 serving with 31 points and three aces in the tournament. Stephie Bauman was 30-for-36 with 19 points and six aces, and Brianna Veen was 36-for-36 with 16 points. Tarren Spartz had 15 points and one ace, and Kara Thuringer was 30-for-32 with 14 points and two aces.
Spartz had 22 kills, Ellie Weg had 18 and Madisyn Huisman 16. Veen and Bauman had 32 set assists apiece. Gracie Barber had seven blocks while Weg had six and Spartz five. Sauerbrei had 43 digs.
Worthington, 5-21 overall, will host Jackson County Central on Tuesday.
