Tuesday sports roundup: Klabunde, Van Maanen are medalists at Larchwood; A/E baseball team tops HL-O/F

LARCHWOOD, Iowa -- Justin Klabunde of Red Rock Central and Tess Van Maanen of Hills-Beaver Creek captured medalist honors Tuesday in a three-team high school golf outing at Larchwood, Iowa.

Klabunde carded a 39 to lead RRC to a team victory. Teammates Damon Holman had 49, Matthew Horning 50 and Mason Gode 51. Van Maanen had a 44 as the Hills-Beaver Creek girls also won as a team.

Scores on the boys' side was RRC 189, Southwest Christian/Edgerton 201 and H-BC 215. For the girls, it was H-BC 218 and RRC 260. Southwest Christian/Edgerton was incomplete.

Other leading boys scores: Davin Van't Hof of SWC/E 49, and Damion Meinerts (H-BC) 53.

Other top girls scores: Hannah Fick and Tara Paulsen of H-BC, 52 and 53, respectively; Carlee Sell of RRC, 53; and Brielle Vis of SWC/E, 55.


Adrian/Ellsworth at Luverne

LUVERNE -- Henry Hartquist carded a 38, leading Luverne to a 169-180 win over Adrian/Ellsworth in a boys golf meet.

Brock Henning of A/E was just one stroke behind Hartquist, posting a 39.

Luverne's Brady Bork, with a 42, and Colin Schoeneman, with a 44, also helped Luverne to victory. A/E's Logan Nogosek had a 41.


A/E 9, HL-O/F 5

HERON LAKE -- Quinten Wolf went 3-for-4 at the plate with a double and three runs scored, and the Adrian/Ellsworth Dragons beat Red Rock Conference rival Heron Lake-Okabena/Fulda 9-5. Dawson Krahling and Takoby Mack each added two hits for the Dragons, and Mack drove in four runs.

Evan Lenz and Krahling pitched for A/E, with Krahling picking up the win after going five innings and allowing just one run.


For HL-O/F, Eli Fest, Parker Murphy and Logan Erdmann all had two hits. Fest scored twice and stole a base, and Erdmann had two RBIs. Three pitchers saw mound action for the Coyotes. Tyson Cotter was charged with the loss.

MCC 9, Edgerton-SWC 4
SLAYTON — Colton Mitchell pitched four innings of scoreless relief and Jaden Deacon knocked in a pair of runs as Murray County Central rallied to defeat Edgerton-Southwest Christian 9-4.
Dawson Blankenship scored three times and Carter Benda stole four bases as the host Rebels improved to 1-2 on the season. It was the first head coaching victory for MCC’s Nate Wieneke, the former Rebel star athlete.
Gabe Gilbertson struck out eight in four innings of work on the mound for Edgerton-SW Christian (0-3).
The Flying Dutchmen led 4-1 in the fourth inning, but MCC rallied for six runs in the fifth. Highlights in the frame included doubles by the Rebels’ Adam Winter and Nate Kleven, a single by Deacon, plus a successful suicide squeeze bunt by Blankenship.
Mitchell struck out five and allowed but three hits to notch the pitching victory. Kleven had two hits and Benda scored twice.
For Edgerton-SW Christian, Payton Bork had two hits.

SANBORN -- Hailey Amsden had two hits, and teammates Nicole Schroepfer and Sondra Rindfleisch drove in two runs apiece as Red Rock Central scored two first-inning runs and stayed in front, winning 7-2.


Schroepfer was the winning pitcher, hurling all seven innings and striking out six.

ELLSWORTH -- In a four-inning game, Adrian/Ellsworth dispatched Heron Lake-Okabena/Fulda 15-0. Leah Kruse pitched all four innings for A/E, allowing two hits and walk and striking out eight.

Claire Hoffman was 4-for-4 for the A/E hitters, with four RBIs and two runs scored. Kruse, Brooklyn Schock and Karly Kruse had two hits apiece. Schock drove in three runs and Leah Kruse scored three times.
