WORTHINGTON -- The Worthington VFW baseball team lost 12-10 to Adrian on Monday in a game played at Lismore, dropping the summer team’s early record to 2-2.
Worthington defeated Luverne and West Central last weekend in a tournament in Luverne, and lost to the Sioux Falls Bulls.
“We’re young. Almost entirely 15,” said local VFW head coach TD Hostikka. “We have four 16-year-olds, but three of those players have not seen baseball time anywhere.”
In the game against Adrian, Worthington’s Brock Bruns was 4-for-4 with three runs including two doubles and two singles. Dan Pavelko was 3-for-4 with a triple and two runs scored.

Though the Worthington team is youthful, Hostikka said he has many very athletic players.
“I really do think we’ll get some things figured out. Right now our pitchers are very good pitchers, but they’ve got to learn how to pitch at this level,” said the coach.
