ALEXANDRIA - Worthington carried the success of a 13-0 win over Pipestone on Thursday right on into Friday.
Post 3958 opened the Alexandria Tournament with a 19-2 thrashing of Shakopee.
“When you put up a crooked number - four - and then come back out and score seven in the second, you know you’re hitting pretty well,” Worthington coach TD Hostikka said. “We basically duplicated what we did last night.”
Jed Jewett improved his pitching mark to 8-2 on the season. He went 3 1/3 innings to get the win, allowing two runs on five hits and striking out one on the way. Tucker Sorenson recorded the final five outs.
King Blanchette had a big game at the plate. He was 4-for-5 with three doubles, two runs and six RBIs. Easton Sauerbrei went 3-for-4 with two doubles, two runs and three RBIs. Sorenson went 3-for-4 with three runs and two ribbies. Shawn Hurley was 2-for-3 with two runs and two stolen bases with Eli Gaul driving in two and scoring three times.
Worthington (25-5 overall) is back in action at 11 a.m. today against New Ulm before a 1:30 p.m. battle with Alexandria.
