BRAINERD -- Dustin Voss shot a 79 in the second and final round of the regional tournament Tuesday to lead the Minnesota West men's golf team to an eighth-place finish out of 10 teams.
Voss, who carded an 84 on Monday, finished the tournament with a 163 -- missing a trip to the national tournament by three strokes.
"If we could take away the four three-putts he had yesterday, he'd be going to nationals," Minnesota West coach Ron Wood said, referring to Voss. "He had just a couple mistakes today, but, either way, he played some good golf.
"He's disappointed, but he's a really good golfer."
Voss, who played well despite rainy conditions on both Monday and Tuesday, earned one of five spots as an alternate for the national tournament.
