Howard Wood Invitational
SIOUX FALLS, S.D. — Worthington High School senior track and field star Abagotte Opiew won the triple jump event at the Howard Wood Invitational on Saturday. Opiew’s gold medal leap 44 '11 feet. Opiew tied for fifth in the long jump on Friday and was 17th in the 110 meter hurdles.
Twin brother Marenono Opiew was fifth in the 300 meter hurdles with a time of 40.60 seconds. Marenono finished 13th in the 110 meter hurdles on Friday.
The Trojans 4x800 meter relay team of Ofbeka Morke, Mikele Walu, Fanuel Wolday and Filmon Wolday finished seventh.
Fanuel Wolday was 29th in the 3200 meter race with a time of 9:59.

Girls Golf
Fairmont Invitational
FAIRMONT — Five of the Trojans’ six varsity girls golf members shot their best rounds of the season at the Fairmont Invitational on Saturday.
Madison Beckmann and Lilly Mahlberg both placed in the top 10. Beckmann scored 86 and Mahlberg shot 87. Tarren Spartz finished 17th and scored 96. Mia Nixon scored 97 and finished 18th. Claire Mahlberg scored 100 and placed 23rd.
The Trojans finished third in the 10 team standings. WHS scored 366 and trailed just Fairmont and Redwood Valley. The Redwood Valley Cardinals won the meet with a score of 338.

Fairmont Invitational
FAIRMONT — Tyler Jaycox led the Worthington Trojans at the Fairmont Invitational on Saturday. The WHS senior shot 82 and was four strokes clear of teammate Logan Powers who scored 86.
The Trojans finished seventh in the 12-team tournament. They had a team score of 350.
Andrew Mulder and Spenser Braaksma tied for a score of 91. Spenser Nickel shot 100 and Waylon Crooks scored 106.

E/SWC 10, Lakeview 6
COTTONWOOD — Edgerton/Southwest Minnesota Christian batted through the order in the top of the first inning against non-conference Lakeview. The Flying Dutchmen went on to win the game by a score of 10-6.
E/SWC capitalized when putting runners in scoring position. The Dutchmen added one run in the second, two runs in the third and one run in the seventh. They had 7 hits and committed just two errors.
Josh Van Dam and Josh Groen had two hits apiece. Groen scored two runs and had two RBIs.
Van Dam started the game on the mound and went four and one-third innings. He struck out seven and issued no walks. Groen pitched the final two and two-thirds innings in relief. He struck out six.
E/SWC plays Adrian/Ellsworth on Monday.

Adrian/Ellsworth 5, MACCRAY 2
ADRIAN — Adrian Ellsowrth scored three runs in the bottom of the fourth inning against MACCRAY for a victory.
Claire Hoffman had two hits and two RBIs. Brooklyn Schock had two walks.
Leah Kruse and Brekkyn Dreesen split pitching duties for the Dragons. Kruse pitched the first two innings and allowed three hits and one earned run. Dreesen pitched three innings and allowed three hits and one earned run.

ADRIAN — The Adrian/Ellsworth Dragons had four runs on six hits against MACCRAY.
Brekkyn Dreesen pitched a complete game allowing three hits, five walks and nine strikeouts. The run scored by MACCRAY was unearned.
The Dragons scored all of their runs in the bottom of the third inning. Karly Kruse had two hits and two RBIs. Leah Kruse had one hit.
