MARSHALL -- Marshall scored less than five minutes into the game, but Worthington's boys' soccer team had the last laugh, knocking off the Tigers 3-1 at Southwest Minnesota State University Tuesday night.
Trevor Johnson found the back of the net after a scramble in the box to make it 1-0 Marshall less than five minutes into the game. Marshall, however, would get just one more shot on goal the rest of the half.
WHS only put three shots on goal in the first half, but one found the back of the net when a cross from Andrew Johnson found the foot of Mu Lar Taw, who tapped it in to tie the game at 1-1.
"We didn't pressure Marshall like we should have in the first half," WHS coach Smitty Ektnitphong said. "Marshall was able to get easy balls and we just weren't up on them.
"At halftime, I challenged my midfielders and forwards and they answered."

The Trojans didn't answer too quickly, but they answered. With 4:44 left in the game, Johnson fed the ball to Victor Meza and Meza got around a Marshall defender and fired from 27 yards out to make it 2-1.
Less than 30 seconds later, the Trojans sealed it when Hector Figueroa found Meza again and Meza found the back of net from 23 yards out to lock up the win for WHS (3-1).
"For the last 15 minutes of the game, we seemed to wake up," Ektnitphong said. "We were able to create opportunities.
"We need to work on getting that tempo going quicker."
Worthington will head to Mankato West Monday.
