NEW ULM -- The Worthington Trojans girls varsity soccer team lost to host New Ulm Thursday night, 5-1.
Mia Johnson had three goals for the winners while teammates Annika Morschauser and Madison Miller scored one goal apiece.
Worthington’s goal was scored by Sofia Montoya near the end of the first half. The Eagles led 3-1 at intermission.
Chantel Peralta made 16 saves for Worthington, which attempted 15 shots themselves for the game.
“The girls are proud of how they played,” said WHS head coach Emily Ahlquist. “You could tell they pushed themselves and had better energy this game than any other game before.”

Ahlquist reserved special praise for senior defender Pam Lomeli and sophomore defender Margarita Pineda Mejia. She said Lomeli had a good mindset throughout and pushed herself in the attack, while Mejia positioned herself well as a sweeper and made several good clears.
