SIOUX FALLS -- The Worthington girls' tennis team lost 6-3 to Sioux Falls Lincoln Tuesday night.

"We have to work on our mental game," Trojans coach Mike Marquardt said. "We practice well and we have the abilities, but we can't always translate them to the games."

The teams played their top six players who matched up in three doubles matches and then the same six squared off in singles for a total of nine points possible.

The Lincoln team of Kaitlyn Olson and Jessie Rames defeated Worthington's No. 1 doubles team of Kate Lesnar and Elizabeth Luke 6-2, 6-4. In No. 2 doubles, WHS's Emily Williamson and Rachel Drietz beat Sarah Ponwith and Eli Crain 6-4, 6-3. In the final doubles match of the night, WHS's No. 3 doubles team of Brianna Kempema and Kristen Aljets defeated Jenny Malcomb and Alex Krocht 3-6, 6-4, 11-9.

In the singles portion of the the match, Olson took down Lesnar in No. 1 singles, winning 6-4, 6-2. In No. 2 singles, Luke lost to Rames 6-2, 7-5, while Williamson was beaten by Ponwith in No. 3 singles 6-3, 6-0.

Drietz lost in her No. 4 singles match, with Crain winning 6-3, 6-2, while Kempema lost to Malcomb 6-0, 6-3. The lone victory for the Trojans in the singles matches came from Aljets, who defeated Krocht 6-4, 6-1.

"They are a consistent team who plays the net well and can place their shots," Marquardt said. "We were not consistent and missed out on big points because we couldn't finish."

In other matchups, the WHS doubles team of Annie Lesnar and Paige Stewart lost to Lincoln's Sydney Dixen and Courtney Benolkin 6-3, 6-3, while WHS's Kara Honius and Laura Wetering beat Alli Berry and Abbey Nielsen 4-6, 6-3, 11-9.

The last doubles match of the day saw the Trojans team of Sarah Janssen and Makensie Carstensen beat Mara Davidson and Aditi Patel 7-6 (3-7), 6-4, 10-6. Also in doubles, Stewart and Justyce Voss lost to Lincoln's Lovrien and Emily Aanenson 6-4, 6-2.

In singles, Alicia Khatt lost to Lincoln's Brooke Lovrien 6-4, 5-7, 10-5, while Miranda LeBrun was defeated by Aanenson 6-3, 6-4. Also in singles, Annie Lesnar beat Sydney Dixen, of Lincoln, 6-3, 6-3, while Wetering was defeated by Berry 7-6 (8-6) 6-4.

The Trojans go on the road again to play MACCRAY in Clara City Thursday at 4:15 p.m.

LHS moves to 7-3 with a win over MACCRAY

LUVERNE -- Luverne used wins from Kaitlin Wohnoutka at No. 1 singles, Emily Robinson at No. 2 singles, Katie Eeten at No. 3 singles, Paige Adams and Kynzie Smedsrud at No. 1 doubles and Brianna Erickson and Tatiana Gust at No. 3 doubles to knock off MACCRAY 5-2 in girls' tennis action Tuesday.

"We were close in most all of our matches," LHS coach Greg Antoine said. "The three seniors in singles really came through today.

"We still need to work on just plain hitting the ball the way a tennis player should hit it. We need to be more aware of where our opponents are on the court and keep the ball away from them."

Wohnoutaka won 6-0, 6-0 at No. 1 singles, Robinson won 6-0, 6-3 at No. 2 singles, Eeten won 6-4, 7-5 at No. 3 singles, Adams and Smedsrud won 6-3, 6-4 at No. 1 doubles and Erickson and Gust won 7-6 (7-3), 6-4 at No. 3 doubles.

Luverne will take on River Valley in Sleepy Eye Thursday.
