WHS softball wins pair of Saturday games

Trojans top Waconia and Hutchinson on the road

HUTCHINSON — The Worthington Trojans swept an unconventional high school softball doubleheader on Saturday, topping Waconia 9-2 in their first game and beating Hutchinson 9-1 in game two.

In the victory against Waconia, Haley Grimmius pitched all seven innings for WHS while scattering seven hits, walking two and striking out 12. Grimmius was also 2-for-3 at the plate with three runs scored, a pair of RBIs and a stolen base.

Olivia Hayenga added a 2-for-4 day effort at the plate against Waconia with two runs scored as well as two RBIs. Sophie Wietzema contributed a two-run double.

Against Hutchinson, Grimmius also pitched all seven innings, this time surrendering just two hits and no walks while once again striking out 12 batter. She was also 4-for-4 at the plate with a home run and double, scoring four times and adding three RBIs.

Other key contributors in the second-game victory were Maddie Pederson (2-for-4 with an RBI) and Presley Sieve (2-for-4 with a stolen base).


It was a fun day of softball and to get two wins against tough section opponents was huge," Trojans head coach Rosalie Hayenga-Hostikka said. "We keep improving every game, and that is so awesome to see.."
