WHS to open state soccer Thursday in Waconia against Willmar

The Worthington Trojans will begin play in the state Class AA boys soccer tournament on Thursday at 5:30 p.m. in Waconia. The opponent will be Willmar.

The Worthington Trojans will begin play in the state Class AA boys soccer tournament on Thursday at 5:30 p.m. in Waconia. The opponent will be Willmar.

Worthington , which is unbeaten on the 2021 season, will contend with Section 6 champion Willmar. The Trojans are the tournament's fifth seed. Willmar is seeded fourth.

WHS is 19-0. Willmar is 17-0-2.

Other quarterfinal games have Orono (seeded No. 1) playing Byron (unseeded) Tuesday at 5:30 p.m. at Eden Prairie, Mahtomedi (2) playing Cloquet-Esko-Carlton (unseeded) Tuesday at 5:30 at Irondale, and Academy of Holy Angels (3) playing St. Cloud Tech (unseeded) Thursday at 7:30 at Monticello.

Semifinal games are Nov. 3 at 12:30 and 2:30 p.m. at US Bank Stadium in Minneapolis. The championship is Nov. 6 at 3:30 p.m. at US Bank Stadium.

There will be a third place game at 11 a.m. Nov. 4 at the West St. Paul Athletics Center.
