WINDOM -- The Windom Eagles ended last season with a 1-8 record overall, with their only win coming over Southwest Conference rival Pipestone Area.
For this fall to yield more wins, the whole of the Eagles team will have to pick up their game and leave everything on the field.
The Eagles are returning a strong group of seniors and juniors who should help bring leadership and stability to the team in all areas. If the Eagles want to improve on last year's record, the upperclassmen will have to take charge and lead by example both on and off the field.
One of the main areas the Eagles must improve upon is their defense. Windom gave up 321 points in nine games last season, an average of 36 points a contest. That number is going to have to come way down for the Eagles to have a better chance to win more games.
Another number that will have to improve is the 58 points the Eagles scored on offense last season, an average of a mere four points a game. The passing and running attacks for Windom Area must improve and become more of a factor each week for the Eagles to stay competitive in the Southwest Conference.

If Windom hopes to win more games this season, they will also have to play better on the road. The Eagles were 0-5 on the road last season, with their only win coming at home to the Pipestone Area Arrows. Their home record could also use as boost, given they lost three of their four home games by more than 20 points. The home field advantage will need to be more of a factor for the Eagles this season in order to give the team a better chance of improving their home record.
Windom was knocked out in the first round of the Class AA Section 3 playoffs last season by the Luverne Cardinals by a score of 40-6. This loss extended the team's losing streak to seven games to end the season. The Eagles hope to avoid continuing their losing streak when they take on Pipestone Area Sept. 7 in Pipestone.
After traveling to Pipestone, the Eagles hit the road again to take on Blue Earth Area on Sept. 14. Windom then makes it back home for home matchup against Worthington (Sept. 21) before going back on the road to face Luverne on Sept. 28.
The Eagles then come home again to take on Marshall on Oct. 5, but then go on the road for the last time this season to face Redwood Valley on Oct. 12. The last game of the season finds Windom playing in front of its home crowd against Jackson County Central.
