WORTHINGTON -- The 2020 Worthington Open college wrestling tournament, scheduled for Saturday, has been canceled due to expectations of harsh winter weather.

This year's tournament was to be the 30th annual. It takes place at Minnesota West Community and Technical College and spills over into the local YMCA. Minnesota West men's athletic director Bob Purcell said up to 16 college teams including the University of Minnesota, South Dakota State University, Minnesota State-Mankato, Augustana University and St. Cloud State, as well as Iowa and Minnesota two-year programs were expected to send wrestlers. Up to 180 wrestlers were planned for.

The Minnesota West wrestling team, coached by Randy Baker, is next scheduled to compete in Worthington at 5 p.m. Jan. 23, as Iowa Lakes arrives for a dual meet.
