FARGO, N.D. - Two-time Minnesota state champion Keegan Moore of Jackson County Central won an individual championship and the Adrian Dragons placed 11th Wednesday in the prestigious Rumble on the Red in Fargo.
Moore moved his personal record to 18-0 by beating Samuel Grove of Moorhead in a fall at 1:23 in the 195-pound weight class.
Moore was the only area wrestler to enter the two-day competition seeded No. 1 in his class. On Tuesday, he won two of his three matches by fall and won another by 15-4 major decision. He won in the semifinals on Wednesday via first period fall.
Jackson County Central earned 80 points for 23rd place overall. Adrian had 100 points for 11th place. Windom/Mountain Lake Area placed in a tie for 45th with 37 points.
Adrian’s Skylar Hieronimus placed third at 126 pounds, beating Jackson Stauffacher of Scott West on a 4-3 tiebreaker in his third-place match.
The Dragons’ Dylan Gyberf was fourth at 220 pounds. Teammate Greg Kern was seventh at 120 pounds.
Gyberg lost to Colbey Steeke of Hettinger-Scranton 6-2 in his third-place match. Kern defeated Spencer Stockman of Rapid City Stevens with a fall in 2:24 in his last match.
Jackson County Central’s Jacob Tvinnereim was sixth at 132 pounds. At 152, JCC’s Dalton Wagner was fourth.
Tvinnereim lost his fifth-place match to Tony Bemboom of Sauk Rapids-Rice by a 7-1 decision. Wagner was beaten 3-0 by Bryce Bruner of Minneota in his third-place match.
Several other area wrestlers performed well despite not placing, including the following (records do not include byes and forfeits):
For Adrian, Ryan Elias was 2-2 at 132 pounds, Logan Rogers was 4-2 at 145, Hunter Heitkamp was 2-2 at 170, and Gavin Engelkes was 2-2 at 285.
For Windom/Mountain Lake Area, Hunter Eckstrom was 2-2 at 106, Zach Spinks was 4-2 at 120, Alex Borsgard was 2-2 at 126, and Evan Wiens was 2-2 at 132.
