COUNCIL BLUFFS, Iowa -- Minnesota West 141-pound wrestler Lamont Cannon became a two-time All-American on Friday at the NJCAA Wrestling Championships in Council Bluffs, Iowa.
He went 4-1 on the day, and will continue his ascent through the consolation bracket in pursuit of third place today.
“He had one disappointing match -- the one he lost,” Minnesota West head wrestling coach Bob Purcell said. “A lot of kids would fold after a loss, but he didn’t. He’s now a two-time All-American for sure.”
Cannon opened the tournament with a first round pin of Pratt’s Dy’juan Carney in 2:05. In the round of 16, he lost to Kurt Mode (Clackamas) by 11-3 major decision. From there, he went 3-0.
He defeated Anthony Viscaino (Northland) 5-1, Dylan Elmore (Harper) 10-2, and Trey Waltz (Otero) 8-4.
