Bluejay wrestlers ousted at national tourney
COUNCIL BLUFFS, Iowa — Each of the three Minnesota West wrestlers who competed Friday at the National Junior College Athletic Association national tournament suffered a pair of losses and was eliminated from further action.
Bluejay wrestlers Christopher Romero (125), Adam Rients (157) and Braydon Johnson (165) went a combined a 1-6 on the day.
Rients got started on a winning note by topping Braydon Wright of Umpqua (Ore.) Community College in his first match Friday. He then dropped a match to Zach Porter of Northeast Oklahoma, and was beaten in the consolation bracket by Shane Chafin of Labette Community College of Kansas. No further specifics on the matches was available.
At 125 pounds, MInnesota West’s Christopher Romero was defeated in his opening match by Isaac Garcia of Iowa Western. He then lost in the consolation bracket to Dylan Pesock of Mercyhurst (Pa.)
Johnson was defeated in his initial match Friday by David Mundey of Garrett College (Md.) and then lost to Wyatt Monro of Western Wyoming.
