Gov. Tim Walz on Tuesday signed the “Driver’s Licenses For All” bill, which removes the requirement for license applicants to provide proof of citizenship or lawful presence in the country.
“There is help for people who have any type of situation," said Arantza Fonseca, who recently joined the ILCM. “Being able to help people is important to us. We want to be able to do that.”
“There’s big change happening,” said Anahi. “If this does pass, it’ll give the Hispanic community more hope of stuff changing and things actually improving.”
Welcome Corps is geared to fast-track refugees, many of whom have waited years to be resettled. The goal is to welcome 5,000 refugees to the U.S. this year, the first to arrive as early as April.
