WORTHINGTON -- A Worthington man received a 109-day jail term after drugs were discovered last November in a garage in which he’d been staying. Rudy Ramirez, 25, was convicted Wednesday of felony fifth-degree drug possession in Nobles County District Court. Two other charges were dismissed as part of the plea agreement. He’d already served his jail time prior to Wednesdays’ sentencing.
WORTHINGTON — The Nobles County Attorney’s Office and an Independent School District 518 counselor have been named this year’s Faces of Hope.

WORTHINGTON — A Worthington man made his initial appearance Tuesday in Nobles County District Court on charges related to stealing money and later depositing it into his bank account. Khampong Thammalong, 29, appeared on felony check forgery and gross misdemeanor theft charges that stemmed from a report of stolen rent payments. The felony-level offense is punishable up to five years imprisonment, a $10,000 fine or both.
BREWSTER — A referendum that would help fund new construction to the Round Lake-Brewster public school in Brewster is fast approaching. RL-B district residents will head to the polls May 14 to determine whether the district may bond up to $1,995,000 for construction of a building addition to the front of the existing pre-kindergarten through eighth grade school building. The district’s current enrollment is 353 students, and RL-B is experiencing a pattern of increasing numbers.
WORTHINGTON — According to the American Red Cross, seven people are killed every day in home fires. On May 4, the Red Cross, Worthington Fire Department and community volunteers will team up to install up to 200 smoke detectors in Worthington-area households.
WORTHINGTON — Three out-of-state individuals were taken into custody this week after drugs and drug paraphernalia were allegedly discovered within a vehicle that also contained five children.
ADRIAN — Two South Dakota men were charged last week in Nobles County District Court after taking law enforcement on a high-speed pursuit of up to 120 miles per hour near Adrian. Demareio C. Hester, 19, and Karoteh K. Suah, 18, both of Sioux Falls, S.D. were arrested April 13 after their vehicle skidded out of control and came to a stop in a snow-covered ditch near Nobles County 35 and Nobles County 15 east of Adrian.
WESTBROOK — After successfully participating in its regional competition, the Westbrook-Walnut Grove robotics team secured a spot among top competitors across the state and advanced to the May 18 Minnesota State High School League state robotics competition. The W-WG Chargers qualified their robot, Taurus, at the Lake Superior Regional competition March 6-9 at the Duluth Entertainment Convention Center, where the team had the highest scoring hatch panel robot.
WORTHINGTON — Worthington Elks Lodge #2287 has awarded Anne Foley with this year’s Elks Distinguished Citizenship Award. Regarded as a supporter of the community’s children, Foley was chosen for the award by the organization’s outgoing exalted ruler, Chris Dybevick.
