ST. PAUL—Minnesota Attorney General Lori Swanson accused a Florida-based charity of misleading Minnesota donors, including many elderly, in a new lawsuit Wednesday, Oct. 10. Swanson alleged the American Federation of Police and Concerned Citizens violated Minnesota's charitable solicitation laws and was not following the guidelines of a 1996 court settlement with the state that cited similar behavior by the organization. The latest lawsuit was filed in Ramsey County District Court.
APPLE VALLEY, Minn. — The Minnesota Zoo said it is taking corrective measures after an audit criticized the way it handled some donations, contracts and concert tickets. On Wednesday, Sept. 19, the legislative auditor's office released the results of a two-month-long audit that covered income contracts, vendor deals and donations associated with the zoo and the Minnesota Zoo Foundation. Among the findings: • The organizations did not properly account for donor contributions. • Some vendor contracts lacked a competitive bidding process
