2020 was warmer, drier than normal

Total precipitation amounted to seven inches less than what’s typical

WORTHINGTON — The just-completed calendar year finished with average high and low temperatures that were above normal, as well as total precipitation that amounted to seven inches less than what’s typical.

The average maximum temperature in Worthington during 2020 was 56.0 degrees, the National Weather Service (NWS) indicated on Dec. 31. That compares to a normal maximum average of 54.7 degrees. The average minimum temperature for the year, meanwhile, was 35.3 degrees, slightly higher than the normal minimum average of 34.2 degrees.

The year’s average temperature for Worthington during 2020 was 45.7 degrees, or 1.2 degrees the average of 44.5.

Recorded measurements over the course of the year at the wastewater treatment plant in Worthington show that a total of 21.89 inches of precipitation fell from this past January through December. The normal amount for a year in Worthington is 29.19 inches, according to the NWS.

Here's a month-by-month review of area weather. Temperature and precipitation readings are based on 24-hour highs/lows/total precipitation compiled at 7 a.m. daily at the wastewater treatment plant.
